Easter musing

As I wandered around a local farm shop with a dear friend last week, we came upon a Colomba Cake. Quintessentially Italian as a celebration cake for Easter much like a Panettone for Christmas. And our thought turned to the unusual shape of the cake –

‘Is it a chicken?’ asked V.
‘A chicken?’ I laughed. ‘I don’t think so. It is for Easter so perhaps a cross?’

Even though it looked nothing like a cross.

When I returned home, I looked this up immediately and discovered that it was in the shape of a dove. The symbol for peace. I liked that. In fact I loved that because here I was with the presumption of a religious symbol when Easter has transcended religion. Religion continues to play a huge part to many of course but Easter is also a time for family get-togethers, for egg hunt joys, for the magic of spring, for peace and reflection.

Wishing you peace in your heart, your mind and in our world this Easter.
